Bucket List Carry-On must haves
- All your medications
- Lip balm and lotion for the long flights, as the air is very dry on the plane
- Travel wipes (clean tray and armrests or anything you plan to be touching while in your seat. AVOID putting hands or personal items in seat back pockets, as these are rarely cleaned as well as they should be and are full of GERMS)
- Snacks (I like to bring instant oatmeal for long flights, just ask the flight attendant for hot water)
- Magazines, puzzle books, pen
- Noise cancelling headphones and an eye mask for those redeye flights
Important Travel Ideas
So often when planning a trip, we don’t think about practical things that we should take care of or think about. Prior to retiring from American Airlines, I was involved in the CARE Team. The CARE Team was a group of people that would be called when there was an airplane emergency/crash (luckily, I never had to be called). We learned a few things that were very helpful that I use today. (Only 1 and 2 pertain)
- Always take a picture of self and traveling companions at airport and text the picture to family members not traveling. (Why…well in case the plane goes down, families might be able to identify you by clothing found. I am sorry for that morbid reason)
- Take a picture of all your medications, so that you can see the name and dosage and phone numbers in case of emergencies while traveling or ER visits. Always carry medication in your carry on.
- Make a copy of your passport, and either take a picture or copy the credit cards you are traveling with along the with phone numbers of the provider in case of loss or items stolen.
- Depending on bank fees, we always get the local currency from the ATM. Although getting the cash from an airport ATM might be convenient, their transaction fees are generally higher than a bank in the city. See the bank affiliates for Bank of America on Bucket List Bank help.
- When renting cars in foreign countries, always check with your credit card company to see what coverage they provide on rental cars. Sometimes you do not need to purchase the added insurance that the car rental tries to upsell you.

US Citizens…Do I Need a Visa to travel?
Beginning in 2021, U.S. citizens will be required to have a visa if they travel to Europe. The visa will be valid for three years, and will allow a holder to enter the country "as many times as necessary," the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) announced. The requirement includes the European Schengen zone, a group of 26 countries, 22 of which are members of the European Union. Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Poland, Spain, and Switzerland are just a few of the countries affected by the new mandate.
