Booked through Travelscene but found as a deal on Travelzoo we’re finally off to Bora Bora for our 25th anniversary. Landing in Papeete from LAX we caught a connection flight to Bora Bora. We then made our way to Le Maitai Polynesia Hotel via boat for 5 nights. All I can say when arriving was “OMG how beautiful”. We did not book the over the water bungalow as those were very pricey about $500 a night more then we paid. We did meet a couple while there that had on and invited us in to see it. It was awesome and had a kitchen, would be great for honeymooners, but being that was 25 years ago for us, our room was more practical. Ours was very nice with views of the crystal blue water. Bora Bora is the place to go if you just want to relax and not be bothered. It did not offer too many activities you could book, but has since added more on Viator since we were there. We did book a jeep tour and stopped at several lookouts including; East Matire, Faanui Canon and Amanahune Bay. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the island. We checked out the US Military artifacts left behind after WWII at Faanui Canon. We tasted tropical fruits and drinks from plantations along the way. The tour circled the island we stopped and watched a demonstration by local artists who made tie-dye sarongs. One day we walked down to Matira Pearls were my husband surprised me with a black pearl necklace. Our resort had kayaks you could take out and that was really fun, the water was so beautiful and crystal clear, we also did a bit of snorkeling which my husband really enjoyed…me, I didn’t do so well, little fear of that whole thing. We would walk to the Beach Bar known as the best beach bar in town with a great swimming beach. And of course, we made our way to Bloody Mary’s, Bora Bora’s most famous bar, visited by the rich and famous and us. It was a fun bar to see, the bar stools were coconut tree stumps and the floor was beautiful white sand and the bar also made of coconuts. Our stay was quit relaxing and checked off another bucket list stop.
